Holocaust Education Week at Forest Hill Collegiate

Special Guest: Ed Carter- Edwards

On Friday, November 5th, 2010, I joined the students of Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, and Canadian Veteran, Flying Officer Ed Carter-Edwards, to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Holocaust Education Week.

It was an honour to sit beside Mr. Carter-Edwards, a courageous man who spoke to students about his experience in World War II, including his experience as one of 168 Allied Airmen who were encarcerated in Buchenwald in 1944.

Mr. Carter-Edwards captivated the students, and encouraged them to keep the stories of the Holocaust and of our history alive.

I would like to thank Principal Peggy Aitchison and staff for welcoming myself and Mr. Carter-Edwards to the school. And a special thank you to Mr. Ed Carter-Edwards for his time and inspiring presentation. Mr. Carter-Edwards continues to travel from City to City to speak to students about his experience in World War II.

I would also like to encourage everyone to tune in to the "Voices of Courage" hosted by CTV Anchor Lloyd Robertson, a Remembrance Day special presentation which will include Mr. Carter-Edwards. The Special will air on CTV News Channel at 8pm on Novmeber 10, 2010, and at 10am on November 11, 2010.
