On Wednesday, September 29, 2010, I will be hosting a Bed Bug Summit at Queen's Park.

I am inviting key stakeholders, who are involved in the front line efforts in fighting the Bed Bug infestation, to come to Queen's Park to put forward recommendations and to share best practices in dealing with Bed Bugs.

The Bed Bug Summit will bring together various Municpal and Provincial representatives, public health units, private and public sector landlords, pest management experts and front line agencies dealing with this infestation.

The goal of the Summit is to develop a strategic and cooperative plan of action to:

1. Inform and educate the public, and raise awareness among stakeholders and the general public, on the best practices to identify and deal with the Bed Bug infestation.

2. Recommend a province wide strategy for early detection, prevention and eradication of Bed Bugs.

3. Identify the most effective short and long term approach to help victims of Bed Bug Infestations.

We currently have a full slate of presenters, but are accepting written submissions. For information about the summit and future events please contact my office at 416-781-2395 or at

"Above all, it is critical to begin the work of engaging all sectors of society in a broad cooperative effort to fight the spread of infestations. It is well known that the longer infestations are allowed to multiply, the more difficult and costly it will be to achieve control." – New York City Bed Bug Advisory Board, April 2010
